BLOCKCHAIN-BASED PLATFORM FOR MANAGING PATIENTS’ DATA IN THE PUBLIC HEALTHCARE SYSTEM OF BRAZIL

Carlo Kleber da Silva Rodrigues

Resumo

The public healthcare system of Brazil must serve a populationof around 214 million citizens, spread across 27 federativeunits covering a territory of over 8.5 million km2. Oneof the pivotal bottlenecks for its effective operation lies in themanagement of patients’ health data, which are consolidatedin medical records. Intrinsically distributed and decentralized, the aforementioned data management raises deep concernsregarding efficiency, security, and scalability, besideseconomic cost. In this context, the Blockchain technologyhas been envisioned as a promising solution. This articletherefore proposes a Blockchain-based platform for managingmedical records. Its effectiveness is herein attested byconceptual discussion plus analytical modeling. As the maincontribution, we thus provide the literature with theoreticalsubsidies and experiments that may underpin and guide thedevelopment of real projects. At last, conclusions and futureworks close this article.
